pH is defined as 'the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution'. The more hydrogen ions there are, the more acidic the solution becomes; and vice versa. The pH scale is a set of numbers from 1 to 14 which tells us not only whether a solution is acid or alkali but how strong it is. Very strong acids have very low pH values from 1 to 4, weak acids are around 5 or 6 with neutral solutions being around 7. A pH above 7 means it is an alkaline solution and the higher the number the stronger it is. Our artesian water is considered a high pH water at 7.6 to 8.0.
